Governor Ritter Boosts Horsepower on Colorado Vehicles PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 18 June 2008
May 14, 2008 was a great day for equus Coloradus—the horses in Colorado—when Governor Bill Ritter signed Senate Bill 178 into a law creating a special license plate honoring the contributions the horse industry makes to the culture and economy of Colorado. The bill was sponsored by Senator Jim Isgar and Representative Marsha Looper, both strong proponents of the state’s agricultural interests. The special plates bear the image of a horse and the words, “Support the Horse.” Proceeds from the sale of the plates will benefit the Colorado Horse Development Authority which promotes education and other programs of value to the horse industry in the state.

Colorado’s Horse Industry Advocates Take the Flying Lead into 2008

Advocates for Colorado’s thriving horse industry are taking the lead in 2008 with events to educate, inform, and provide forums for horsemen of every discipline and breed affiliation.
On January 7, 2008, the annual CHDA Summit in Denver launches the Colorado horseman’s year with a gathering of organizational leaders. Recently, the CHDA surveyed industry members (through the services of  Dr. Ed Blach of Zoomerang) to identify their top concerns; the CHDA Summit agenda was shaped around their responses.

Moderated by CHDA President Dr. Jim Heird of CSU, the Summit offers the inside view of the state of the Centennial State’s agriculture industry from Dr. John Stulp, Colorado Commissioner of Agriculture. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Tom Lenz, president of the Unwanted Horse Coalition, an alliance of organizations and individuals whose aim is to develop thoughtful answers to the issues surrounding surplus horses. The UHC’s “Own Responsibly” campaign is gaining momentum nationwide not only as a descriptive catchphrase but also as a framework for creating a sustainable horse industry.

There will also be time during the Summit for open discussion on other key issues pertinent to the horse industry. Organization leaders can sign up to attend by calling (303) 292-4981 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . There is no cost to participate; please reserve by January 4. The Summit will be held at the Holiday Inn, Denver Central (I-25 at I-70).

But 2008 is just getting started…
