A License to Celebrate: “Support the Horse” Colorado plate tops gift list for horse lovers

Promote the horse and please a friend—the “Support the Horse” Colorado license plate will delight every horse enthusiast on your holiday list. Proceeds go to the Colorado Horse Development Authority, which in turn uses the money to award grants to individuals and groups whose activities further Colorado’s vital and historic horse industry.

In 2009, the CHDA funded large animal rescue training, horse judging seminars, and other activities. CHDA also sponsored Audra Dobbs, who traveled tirelessly this year as Miss Rodeo Colorado 2009, promoting public awareness of Colorado’s horse programs and activities. CHDA will continue this effort by supporting Kasie Pigg, the incoming Miss Rodeo Colorado for 2010.

The handsome plates are available now; first year cost is $80 ($30 to the CHDA and $50 to the Highway Users Tax Fund, payable to the DMV at the time of registration). The DMV office will also charge regular vehicle registration taxes and fees when plates are picked up. The $80 is charged only for the first year; after the initial purchase, there’s no extra renewal fee to keep your special plates—only normal, annual vehicle registration taxes and fees. Visit www.SupportTheHorse.com to view an image of the plate and for answers to other frequently asked questions.

Purchase certificates in one of three ways:

  • Send a check for $30 payable to the Colorado Horse Development Authority (CHDA) to:

    CHDA
    420 E. 58th Ave., #145
    Denver, CO 80216

  • Go online to www.SupportTheHorse.com (or go through www.chda.org)
  • Call (303) 292-4981

Make the Colorado horse lovers on your holiday gift list happy with “Support the Horse” plates—and give a boost to one of Colorado’s most important industries.
