Support the Recreational Trails Program in Your State

RTP is important to recreational riders all over the country and the AHC is pleased Congress preserved this program in the highway bill.

Unfortunately, the new highway bill allows states to opt-out of the program if they choose.  States that opt out would not be able to use RTP money for any other purpose and would lose this money, so there should be little motivation to turn down these funds.  However, it remains important that state horse councils let their governors know the RTP program is important to recreational riders in their state.

The AHC encourages your state horse council to send the attached letter modified with state specific information to your governor. In the letter you should cite examples of RTP projects in your state, if you can. You can search for projects in your state here.

If a state wishes to opt out of RTP it must notify the U.S. Department of Transportation by September 1st.  SHCs should send or deliver their letters of support before that date.

If you have any questions please email AHC Legislative Director Ben Pendergrass or call him at (202) 296-4031.
